Empowering
Young Women to Reach Their Full Potential

The SHINE Program is a unique, school-based initiative designed to support secondary school girls who may be facing barriers to learning and self-confidence. SHINE offers these young women a safe space to explore their strengths, develop life skills, and foster meaningful relationships with peers, mentors, and their community. This structured program is based on the Western Australian health curriculum and aims to help young women lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives.

Our purpose

Our goal is to empower young women to overcome challenges and thrive. Many SHINE participants are referred to the program by principals or teaching staff who see potential in these students but recognise they need extra support to succeed. SHINE addresses social, emotional, and academic barriers that may stand in the way of learning, equipping students with the tools to move forward with confidence and resilience.

how SHINE
works

Delivered over a 40-week school year, the SHINE program takes a holistic approach to personal development, covering a range of topics through engaging activities, community involvement, and real-life applications. Students work in small groups, building trust and relationships, while also establishing individual goals and gaining skills to meet those goals.

Program Pillars:
Inspire, Achieve, Belong

Inspire

At the beginning of the program, we focus on sparking curiosity and self-discovery. Through group discussions and personal reflection, students explore their own values, strengths, and life aspirations. They start to identify personal barriers and discuss ways to overcome them in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.

Achieve

As students move through the program, they learn practical skills for social interaction, communication, and self-care. Every time a student applies a new skill or reaches a small milestone, we celebrate these steps as achievements. This phase reinforces each participant’s confidence, helping her feel more capable in both school and personal settings.

Belong

SHINE is deeply rooted in the community, and we encourage our students to give back through group volunteering and local projects. Guest speakers from community organisations often join us to share resources, giving students insights into local support networks and how to access help when needed. This phase strengthens their sense of belonging and connection to their community.

Our Facilitators:
Skilled and Compassionate Mentors

Each SHINE Program is led by a trained facilitator who works closely with students, providing guidance, support, and a consistent, positive adult role model. Our facilitators are qualified professionals with backgrounds in education or community service, and each one undergoes extensive screening to ensure they meet Department of Education policies.

Facilitators play a key role in keeping in touch with students, their families, and school staff, creating a close-knit support network that enhances each student’s SHINE experience.

We have also embedded evidence based and nationally accredited content into our program delivery:
